Izo Choreographs Its Influencer Network with Tipalti

Izo is the parent media company of Dance On, a digital network devoted to original dance-centric video content for Millennials and the Gen-Z audiences. With A-list roots (such as having Madonna as a co-founder), Izo has also launched the careers of several up and coming artists including the likes of Silentó, whose video “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” has over 1.3B views on YouTube and was the top trending song in 2015 and part of 2016.

With thousands of dancers and choreographers on their network, Izo needed a more streamlined way to pay these partners who are part-influencers, part-creators, and part-talent. Izo also pays dancer-influencers that actively make their own content, often turning them into digital media stars.

The Need to Operate Lean in the Digital Media Industry

The growth of the network had to happen without hiring a large team for accounts payable and finance. With an imperative to scale quickly to a relevant position, Izo looked to technology to take on as much of their operational processes as possible.

“For a lot of early-stage digital media entertainment companies, in order for them to become cashflow positive, it behooves them to run very lean,” says Dan Steinberg, CFO of Izo. “Digital media involves much more guerrilla approaches to production. You’re filming a lot more with lower budgets, and ideally employing data-driven approaches to extend the value of content.”

“Tipalti simplifies the process of how our partners are paid, allowing us to invest more of our internal resources in areas that fuel our growth, like new show concepts and building our talent network.”

Partner Payments Made Easy

Izo is able to streamline partner payments through Tipalti. This population includes a growing international community. A fair number of partners are based in the Russian Federation, and Izo is mindful of how to properly remit payments in those jurisdictions. To date, 80% of their network is paid through Tipalti, dramatically reducing payment friction.

“We spend less time with the email ping-pong that comes with manual payments,” adds Steinberg. “ From our partners’ standpoint, the process is smooth and transparent. We don’t hear complaints. That’s the golden indicator that nothing is going wrong, and that’s the payment experience you want.”

“It’s those attentive innovations like tax compliance which Tipalti provides that helps us streamline our financial operations,” says Steinberg. “It provides a layer of transparency for our talent partners and reduces any transactional issues in the relationship.”
