There was a time when the most successful CEOs and business owners were just that and were relatively unknown to the customers and users of their products and services. In 2022, however, these top bosses are far more visible and some are influencers in their own right.
From Twitter to TikTok, the names and lives of CEOs are increasingly visible, but which ones are proving to be the most influential?
While we may be most interested in providing accounts payable automation software , we are also fascinated by every part of business, from the profit per second made by the world’s biggest companies to the influence of the top bosses across the world, so we took a look at the social media presence of these CEOs to discover the most influential.
We’ve looked at a variety of factors to discover the most influential CEO. We’ve looked at Twitter followers, Instagram mentions, TikTok views, IMDB credits, video search results, the number of fake news articles, merchandise, and their estimated net worth.
CEO influencer score
Elon Musk has been crowned as our most influential CEO with a score of 9.91 out of 10. Musk has been incredibly successful as the CEO of Tesla since earning the job in 2008 releasing a selection of incredibly safe electric cars. In April 2022, Musk finalised a deal to purchase Twitter but has since attempted to withdraw, leading to an ongoing legal battle between the CEO and the social media powerhouse.
CEO influencer score
Bill Gates takes second place with a CEO influencer score of 9.6 out of 10. Bill Gates co-founded Microsoft, which has become one of the most successful companies in the world. However, in March 2020, Gates stepped down from the Microsoft board and was left with just 1% of shares in the company.

Jeff Bezos completes our top three with a CEO influencer score of 9.20 out of 10. Bezos is the founder of Amazon and was CEO until July 2021. Andy Jassy replaced him as CEO with Bezos wanting to focus on other projects. Bezos was the richest man in the world for four years before Elon Musk overtook him this year.

We searched the names of our CEOs on RedBubble to see which names returned the most results for custom-made merchandise.
Merchandise results
Elon Musk had the most fan-created merchandise, returning over 25,000 results when searching for his name. Elon Musk has also been crowned the richest man in the world in 2022, overtaking Jeff Bezos who held the title for the last four years. Musk’s tweets were a common theme for the merchandise created, with mugs, t-shirts, and hoodies displaying humorous tweets from the man himself.

Bill Gates takes second place with a little over 5,000 results for fan-created merchandise when searching for his name. The most common theme for Gates’ merchandise was simple posters of himself now, as well as when he was younger. There were also a few Windows and Microsoft memes which made for some funny t-shirts.

Jeff Bezos completes our unchanged top three, with just over 1,800 results for fan-created merchandise when searching for his name. Bezos recently had a short song written about him, which went viral on TikTok. The lyrics of the song made it onto a few t-shirts and posters, however, the results for Bezos were quite varied.

We looked at IMDB to see which of our CEOs had the most IMDB credits.
IMDB credits
Bill Gates takes the top spot with 241 IMDB credits. Over half of these credits are from talk show appearances and news interviews, where Gates was featured as a guest. The 66-year-old has recently invested in Berkshire Hathaway, a holding company founded by Warren Buffett.

Elon Musk takes second place with 158 IMDB credits. As well as a large number of podcast and interview appearances, Musk has appeared in a few movies and television shows, including Iron Man 2, Machete Kills, The Big Bang Theory, and Young Sheldon. Musk has also appeared in animated sitcoms, including The Simpsons, South Park, and Rick and Morty.

Mark Zuckerberg completes our top three with 124 IMDB credits. Zuckerberg has appeared in a number of documentaries and TV series as himself, often highlighting the success of his company Facebook, or Meta as the parent company is now known. Zuckerberg, who also owns Instagram, even appeared in a 2010 episode of The Simpsons.

We searched for the name of the CEO on Instagram to find the number of hashtags as well as on TikTok to find the number of views where the CEO's name was hashtagged.
We used Twitter to find the number of followers each CEO had.
We searched for the CEO's name on IMDB to find the number of credits each CEO had.
We used a video search tool on Google to find the number of results which came up when searching for the CEO's name.
We used Fact Check Explore to find the number of fake news associated with each CEO.
We used RedBubble to find the number of results which came up under each CEO's name.
Finally, we used Celebrity Net Worth, wallmine , and Forbes to find the net worth of each CEO.
All data is accurate from 23.09.2022.
Biggest Social Media Presence
In order to discover the CEOs with the biggest social media presence, we looked at Twitter followers, Instagram hashtags of the CEOs' names, and TikTok views where the CEO’s name is hashtagged to determine which of our CEOs had the biggest presence on social media.

Elon Musk returns to the top spot with a perfect social media score of 10 out of 10, ranking highest in all three of our categories. There’s no surprise that the owner of Twitter has the most Twitter followers compared to our CEOs, but Musk also has more than twice as many Instagram hashtags, and almost six times as many TikTok views as the second highest in each respective list.

Bill Gates takes second place with a social media score of 9.52. Bill Gates has the second-highest number of Instagram hashtags and Twitter followers, however, he has the third-highest TikTok views, behind Jeff Bezos who places third place on our list.
